This story is about my Grandmother's traditional ancestors who originate and belong to the Nykina language group who grew up along and in close proximity of the Martuwarra, which is also known as the Fitzroy River. It is located in the region of the West Kimberley of Western Australia. This painting emphasises the main river, waterholes and run off areas. It shows the flowing river which was a source of food such as fish, freshwater mussels, prawns and seasonal bush fruits. My ancestors main focus of survival was living close to the Martuwarra.

The brown circles in the painting represents where families lived as they lived a nomadic lifestyle moving around to hunt and gather food that is in season.

Wooden frame in photos is used as an example.
