Family Gathering at Sunset beautifully shows a family coming together, sharing love, and bonding in a peaceful natural setting.
The sunset creates a calm and comforting atmosphere. Nature plays an important role in the painting. The wide sky, fading light, and open space give a feeling of peace and gratitude. It suggests that stepping away from busy daily life and spending time together outdoors brings happiness and emotional warmth.
Time spent together as a family is shown as something very special. The setting sun reminds us that time passes quickly, but moments shared with loved ones become lasting memories. The painting encourages viewers to appreciate simple gatherings — standing together, talking, laughing, and enjoying nature’s beauty.
Overall, the artwork expresses:
Love and togetherness
Emotional bonding
Peaceful family moments
The healing and positive feelings that nature brings
The painting gently reminds us that the most meaningful moments in life are often quiet ones — being present with family, feeling connected, and enjoying the beauty around us.

Desert wildflowers hold family memories, joy, and connection to Country.
My work comes from my family, Country, and Aboriginal culture. The stories I paint are the ones passed down from my ancestors — through family, memory, and lived experience. I create to honour those stories and keep them strong, so they can continue to be shared in new homes and across generations. — Renee

Artwork represents the wet and dry season. Water, wind, drought, hot weather, cold weather, flowers, dead and growing seeds.
Wet season – all the flowers bloom , it rains, all the plants turn green, and all the waterholes begin filling up and the rivers begin to run. During the hot days it’s humid, the wind is dry, plants begin to die.
Dry season the weather is cold and we have easterly winds. We also have fires and cyclones. No matter what season it is families still gather together for storytelling, hunting and gathering.

Every year the flat back sea turtles come to Cable Beach to lay their eggs. This is during October to March. The hatching of the turtles happen usually seven weeks after the eggs have been laid. The painting shows the eggs hatched in the middle of the painting and the sea turtles. All the colours represent the beautiful ochre pindan and aqua colours of Broome’s soil and ocean. It also represents all the patterns found in the sand at the beach and the different colours of sunset and sunrise.
The painting is such a special piece to me as it has been a huge family effort/collaboration. With my mother Matilda Blondie Pascoe, three sons, my two daughters and I. My youngest artist Lachlan helped and he was only five, my oldest was a teenager. Having three generations work together, laugh, get frustrated, give each other advice was so fun working together as a family. It’s taken nearly a month to complete with non stop work. We are so pleased and proud of the end result and it has been the most beautiful piece we have all done together. We can do custom sizes to fit your space.
All fine art paper and un-stretched prints include a 5cm border. A 30cm x 30cm print will give you an actual image of 20cm x 20cm. A 40cm x 40cm print will give you an actual image of 30cm x 30cm and so on. Stretched canvas prints come ready to hang with no border.

It shows how all the beautiful nature around us was created, such as hills, river, lakes, sand dunes, ocean, rock pools, water holes, bush fruits, seeds, wildflowers. It also represents the journey of life that we are taking. We are walking on Mother Earth and enjoying everything that has been created. We are also enjoying our journeys with our family and friends and are showing that we belong to this beautiful country that was created in the dreamtime.

I really love painting whale sharks and anything related to the ocean. From when I was little I have always visited my Nana’s country at Budgarjook near Beagle Bay and have grown up near the ocean. My Nana’s country always inspires me to paint all the sea animals and beautiful colours of the ocean.
Kathleen celebrates receiving her Yallingup Galleries Artbeat 2025 Art Award from Trish Pepper, following an interview with ABC Kimberley’s Vanessa Mills.
Every piece tells a story that has been passed down through generations. Our art holds the colours, shapes, and spirit of Country, and through it we share a living culture. Art is part of who we are in my family. Everyone is an artist. My mother, Matilda, and my daughter, Kathleen, paint with me full time, and I feel proud and honoured to share many of their beautiful artworks alongside my own on this website.
Keeping culture strong across three generations of Aboriginal artists.

ARTWORK WITH MEANING
Artwork by our award winning artist Kathleen Clifton. Painted at an aerial view and inspired by the movement of the ocean waters created by the whale sharks.
The symbols in my contemporary Aboriginal artwork represents many special stories and meanings. It is so special to create stories and belong to one of the oldest cultures in the world.
